Plans to establish a research and development center for digital technology in the Belarusian Academy of Sciences

MINSK, June 28 (BelTA) – BelTA has learned that a research and development center for digital technology Academic IT City is being created on the basis of the Computer Science Institute and the Mathematics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The Research and Development Center for Digital Technology aims to pool the efforts and competencies of organizations operating in the field of information technologies in order to carry out tasks related to the social and economic development of Belarus and scientific and technological progress. In contrast to the Hi-Tech Park, Academic IT City will focus on providing science-intensive digital technologies for the real economy.

President of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov said: “We need academic cooperation to carry out the major tasks of the country’s economy. It is necessary to bundle the scientific potential of science and the efforts of our organizations to make integration decisions for major practical problems in the national economy. “

Among other things, Academic IT City has to develop import-substituting digital technologies for various companies, export digital technologies and services that have been tried and tested in Belarus, develop the R&D and manufacturing potential of the participating organizations in the field of information, develop technologies, offer advisory and educational services, provide scientific evaluation and support innovative projects and R&D projects.

A number of organizations from the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus have agreed to participate in Academic IT City. These include the Physics Institute, the AV Lykov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute, the Institute for Applied Physics, the R&D Corporate Center for Identification Systems, the Joint Institute for Mechanical Engineering and the Institute for Bioorganic Chemistry. Other organizations and private companies are to join the initiative later.

Academic IT City’s research and development center for digital technology will take care of digital design and computer modeling, technologies for data processing, analysis and use, security technologies for information systems, expert evaluation of software used and software under development. A number of participating organizations have experience of using the technology to develop and operate digital copies of various facilities and installations, technical, physical and technological processes. The participating organizations will also perform computer modeling, design and development of decision-making systems for industrial companies, transport and logistics companies, for agriculture, civil engineering, extraction and processing of natural resources.
