Belarusian Grodno Oblast signs agreement with Russia’s Bashkortostan, Tomsk Oblast

GRODNO, June 29 (BelTA) – On the fringes of the 8th Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Russia, the Belarusian Grodno Region signed agreements on interregional cooperation with the Russian Republic of Bashkortostan and the Tomsk region.

The governor of the Grodno Oblast, Vladimir Karanik, signed the agreements in good working order today. The documents have already been signed by the Russian partners and handed over to the Grodno region through diplomatic channels. The agreements provide for the development of interregional relationships in trade, economy, science, technology, social affairs and culture.

Vladimir Karanik noted that Grodno Oblast has signed a total of 25 agreements with Russian regions. “The forum has developed into a platform for the further development of the strategic partnership between the two countries. Every time we find more similarities in different areas,” he said.

According to Vladimir Karanik, Russia remains Grodno Oblast’s most important foreign trade partner. The Russian market accounts for more than 50% of the region’s exports. Local companies continue to develop the market, increase the product range and expand the delivery geography. The forum also contributes to this. Regional producers, especially meat and milk producers, but also industrial companies have contracts with Russian partners worth € 12 billion.

“The collaboration in science and technology is just as important. Joint projects will stimulate mutual trade. Thanks to the research and development of our scientists, we will be able to increase the competitiveness of our companies in foreign markets, “said Vladimir Karanik. Another topic of mutual cooperation is the development of digitization and the consolidation of efforts on this front It is important that the forum also highlight the lessons learned from the pandemic: “Life shows that we cannot ignore infectious diseases and must make the economy resilient to external challenges and shocks,” said the governor.

The 8th Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Russia started on June 29th and will last until July 1st. The most important events are taking place online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The plenary session, the central event of the forum, will take place on July 1st via video link. The list of speakers includes heads of government, ministries and departments, business representatives from both countries and digitization experts. In order to give new impetus to the digitization process and the development of the common scientific and technological space in the Union state, Belarusian and Russian companies will sign several cooperation agreements and contracts on the sidelines of the forum.
