Belarus wants to liberalize trade in services and access Chinese online platforms

MINSK, September 2 (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave a video address on September 2 at the summit on world trade in services in Beijing, BelTA learned.

“In the years of close friendship between Belarus and China, we have seen time and again that Beijing pursues a consistent policy that aims to bring together many states within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative based on the principles of honest, equal and mutually beneficial cooperation to unite.” . The challenges related to the pandemic and other global threats have only strengthened this cooperation, ”said the Belarusian head of state.

He stressed that holding the international fair in this complicated time is a very important and symbolic step of the People’s Republic of China, as closed borders, decline in tourism, the disruption of logistics chains and higher protectionism, enormous pressure on the health system, the lifting of international cultural events has become an unprecedented test for the service market.

At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko noted that the crisis had spurred the development of digital technologies and had given the quality change in the traditional service sector a certain boost. “In this regard, we are impressed by China’s advanced experience in the development and application of distance learning services, online health and diagnosis and treatment methods, digital technologies in tourism,” said the head of state.

“Belarus is committed to promoting the export and import of services. We hope to expand cooperation in the service sector with China, one of Belarus’ most important partners. We are prioritizing joint efforts by states to further liberalize trade in services, break down barriers and attract investment. Over the past few years, we’ve seen robust growth in global electronic commerce, including cross-border commerce, which can skyrocket 50% every year. This tool has become an efficient resource for restoring economic growth. Belarus is trying to access Chinese online platforms to promote education, tourism and medical goods and services, ”said the Belarusian President.

Alexander Lukashenko said the coronavirus had caused enormous damage to the tourism industry. “We have to intensify our efforts to increase the volume of tourist services,” he is convinced.

According to the head of state, the world is grappling with a global “logistical collapse”. “Thanks to Belarus’ unique geographical location, our transport infrastructure is used intensively as a reliable transit corridor for belts and roads. In the period from 2014 to 2020, the volume of rail container transports on the China-Europe-China route increased 14-fold. The Republic of Belarus will continue to do its best to ensure the continuous development of this route, ”emphasized the Belarusian head of state.

In conclusion, he stressed that Belarus will continue to contribute to the rapid recovery of the world economy. The country will continue to promote multi-faceted and mutually beneficial international service cooperation. The President wished the organizers of the event every success. He also wished the participants in the forum productive work.

The China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) is the country’s largest specialist forum.
