EU countries have accused Belarus of flying in migrants from the Middle East and Asia and then sending them to the border – allegedly in retaliation for sanctions against the regime of Alexander Lukashenko. Lithuania and Poland responded by strengthening border security and, controversially, using pushbacks. In the Belarusian capital, our correspondent Gulliver Cragg caught up with and disappointed some of those who had been promised an easy path to the EU.
